Features
Multi-Format Player:
The Denon
DVD-2910 is a "universal" player, which offers
playback of both ultra high-resolution
multi-channel audio formats: DVD-Audio and
SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc). Both formats,
with their wide frequency responses, capture
subtle details that make music sound richer
and more real.
Disc
Compatibility:
This unit can
play the following types of discs: DVD-Video,
DVD-Audio, Video CD, Audio CD, and Super Audio
CD (SACD). In addition, this unit is
compatible with CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW
discs, as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG files
recorded on CD-R, CD-RW or CD-ROM discs.
According to the manufacturer, this unit can
also play DVD+R and DVD+RW discs, although
compatibility with these discs is not
mentioned in the manual.
Dual
Discrete Video Circuit: The DVD-2910 uses
dual 12-bit 216 MHz video D/A converters to
ensure highly accurate playback of delicate,
low-level video signals and give you a vivid
picture that is faithful in every detail. One
D/A converter is used to process Progressive
signals and one is used for Interlaced signals
to eliminate mutual interference between the
two types of signals.
Audio Processing: This unit
uses 24-bit, 192 kHz audio D/A converters that
are well protected from noise caused by
fluctuations in current from the power supply.
It has built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders
along with a 5.1-channel analog output.
High-End Digital Outputs: This unit can be
connected to another compatible component
using a single cable for high quality digital
images and sound with little transfer loss:
-
Denon Link: This terminal can be used
for digital audio transfer of DVD-Video
signals, as well as multi-channel audio
signals of DVD-Audio. (Compatible only with
Denon receivers with Denon Link connectors,
such as AVR-5803 and AVR-3805)
-
IEEE 1394: This terminal can digitally
transfer audio signals from DVD-Video,
DVD-Audio, and Super Audio CD, and other
multi-channel audio signals.
-
HDMI: This terminal can transfer digital
video and digital audio signals from
DVD-Video and DVD-Audio signals.
Black Level: When the HDMI or DVI-D
outputs are used, you can set the black level
to Normal (within a range of 16 to 235) or
Enhanced (within a range of 0 to 246).
Picture Quality Adjustments: The DVD-2910
allows you to select a Standard picture
quality setting (default settings) or
customize the settings and save them in one of
five image quality memories (M1-M5). Custom
settings include adjustments for contrast,
brightness, sharpness (mid and high), hue,
CCS, white level, chroma level, chroma delay,
DNR, vertical enhancer, horizontal enhancer,
gamma, setup level, horizontal position, and
vertical position.
Digital Audio Output Capabilities: When
playing copyright-protected linear PCM or
packed PCM DVDs, no digital signals are output
for sources exceeding 48kHz/16-bits. When
making digital connections to a receiver that
is not compatible with 96kHz/88kHz signals,
you can set the unit to output the signal as
44.1kHz or 48kHz LPCM.
SRS
TruSurround: The multi-channel sound
normally achieved with five speakers is
recreated using only two front stereo
speakers. This results in a sound with a
nearly natural sense of movement that seems to
surround the head, without the strong
directivity characteristic of multi-speaker
system. TruSurround only works for DVD-Video
and Video CDs.
Video Scaler: This unit features a
built-in high quality video scaler that is
capable of outputting video signals in a
variety of customizable HD formats. You can
select in the Video Setup menu to output the
image from the HDMI and DVI-D connectors as
480p/576p, 720p, or 1080i.
MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3
and WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW
discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1 format. It is
recommended that MP3s be recorded with bit
rates of 128 kbps or higher, and WMA files at
bit rates of 64 to 160 kbps. The player can
recognize up to 600 files. This unit is not
compatible with ID3 tags.
JPEG
Playback: This unit will play JPEG still
image files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs
using the ISO 9660 Level 1 format. This unit
can recognize baseline JPEG files of less than
30MB. JPEG files can be displayed one at a
time, or in a slideshow fashion.
Resume Play Function: This
function allows you to resume DVD playback at
the point where it left off the last time you
stopped playback. The resume function is
cleared by pressing the stop button twice,
opening the disc drawer, adjusting the
Parental Lock function, or removing power from
the unit. This feature only works with discs
that have elapsed time information.
Slow Motion Speeds: When
playing a DVD-Video disc, you may move forward
or backward through the program in one of four
slow-motion speeds (1/8x, 1/6x, 1/4x and
1/2x). When playing a Video CD, you may move
forward only through the program in one of
four slow-motion speeds. No sound is output
during slow-motion play.
Scanning Speeds: There are
seven fast forward and reverse speeds for
DVD-Video and DVD-Audio discs (2x, 4x, 6x, 8x,
16x, 32x, and 64x) and four for SACD, Video
CD, and CD (2x, 4x, 6x, and 8x).
Program
Playback: You can create a playlist of
tracks from DVD-Audio, Video CD, SACD, and
Audio CD of up to 20 steps. The playlist is
deleted when the unit is turned off or the
disc is ejected.
Bookmarks: You can bookmark up to 5 scenes
you want to see again so you can start
playback from the marked position whenever you
want. The marks are cleared when the disc is
ejected or the unit is turned off.
Ratings (Parental Control):
This unit allows you to set playback
restrictions for DVDs using the Ratings
feature. You can select a parental control
rating level from 0 (lock all) to 8 (No
Limit), which is protected by a 4-digit
password.
Display Dimming: The unit's
display can be adjusted in 4 steps from All
Off to Always On.
Remote Control (RC-972): The supplied
remote is programmed to operate this unit
only. A backlight button supplies illumination
for the disc transport buttons only (play,
pause, stop, etc).
Inputs and Outputs Notes
5.1-Channel Audio Outputs: The DVD-2910
offers multi-channel analog output for
DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and SACD playback.
2-Channel
Audio Outputs: In addition to the
5.1-channel analog outputs, the unit features
a stereo audio output for connecting to a
stereo analog input on a TV or receiver. Even
when the source audio is multi-channel (Dolby
Digital, DTS, DVD-Audio, SACD), these jacks
will output a downmixed 2-channel signal.
DVI-D
Output: The DVD-2910 has a 24-pin DVI-D
jack for connecting a compatible TV or
monitor. Using the DVI setup menu, you can
choose to output the signal as 1080i, 720p, or
480p. A separate audio connection must be made
because the DVI-D connection does not pass
audio signals.
HDMI
(High Definition Multimedia Interface):
The unit's HDMI simplifies A/V connections by
carrying uncompressed SD or HD digital video
and up to 8 channels of digital audio all in
one cable. This unit features HDCP copyright
protection technology, and must be connected
to an HDCP-compliant device. The output
resolution can be set to match the capability
of the monitor or projector. The HDMI
connection is compatible with DVD-Video and
DVD-Audio, but not SACD. The video signal
format can be set to 480p, 720p or 1080i.
Note on DVI-D and HDMI: On the front
panel, you can select one of following
outputs: "HDMI Y Cb Cr", "HDMI RGB", "DVI",
or "HDMI/DVI Off". Once you have chosen
the output, you can then select the video
signal format: 480p/576p, 720p or 1080i.
Digital Audio Outputs: This unit features
two digital audio outputs, one optical and one
coaxial connection. These can be connected to
a A/V receiver, amplifier, surround decoder
(Dolby Digital, DTS), or other component.
Component Video Output: The DVD-2910
features a component video outputs, capable of
passing a progressive scan signal or an
interlaced video signal.
Composite/S-Video: For connecting to TVs
with only composite or S-Video inputs, this
unit provides one composite video and one
S-Video output jack.
