Whether you're looking for
sublime picture quality, or the heart and soul
of your favorite music, you'll find it with
the DVD-3930CI! By combining state-of-the-art
technology with old-fashioned craftsmanship,
Denon has created a component with the look
and feel of a fine instrument. Its handsome
brushed-aluminum front panel and awe-inspiring
performance make the '3930CI an ideal choice
for any first-class home theater or audio
system.
Denon's rock-solid DVD-3930CI
produces a vivid picture that's faithful in
every detail. It sports extremely advanced
video and audio processing, including the
professional-grade Realta™ HQV chip from
Silicon Optix — formerly available from Denon
only in their top-of-the-line DVD-5910CI. This
powerful chip reduces noise on a
pixel-by-pixel basis and upconverts standard
DVD signals to 1080p resolution for an
unforgettable movie experience with compatible
HDTVs. Regardless of whether the original
source was film or video, you'll enjoy a
remarkably crisp and colorful picture, free
from blurriness, "jaggies," and other digital
artifacts.
Audio adjustments include lip
sync correction to compensate for
not-quite-perfect soundtrack timing. Digital
bass management for SACD and DVD-Audio allows
you to send just the right frequencies to your
main speakers and subwoofer, so you'll get the
best-sounding high-resolution music from your
specific speaker system. Use the DVD player's
high-quality Burr-Brown audio
digital-to-analog converters for rich,
detailed sound from any receiver with
multichannel inputs, or send the audio signal
to a compatible Denon receiver via the Denon
Link digital connection to enjoy unprecedented
audio purity. Advanced AL24 processing helps
bring out the detail in stereo sources such as
CDs.
This player's meticulous
design houses its audio and video circuit
boards in their own dedicated blocks to
minimize any possibility of interference. And
the rugged chassis squelches vibration to
further ensure pristine standards of signal
purity
Features
Multi-Format Player:
The Denon DVD-3930CI is a "universal"
player, which offers playback of both ultra
high-resolution multi-channel audio formats:
DVD-Audio and SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc).
Both formats, with their wide frequency
responses, capture subtle details that make
music sound richer and more real.
Disc
Compatibility: This unit can play the
following types of discs: DVD-Video,
DVD-Audio, Video CD, Audio CD, and Super Audio
CD (SACD). In addition, this unit is
compatible with CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW
discs, as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG files
recorded on CD-R, CD-RW or CD-ROM discs. This
unit can also play DVD+R and DVD+RW discs as
well as Picture CD, Fujicolor CD, and DivX
compatible discs.
MP3/WMA
Playback: This unit will play MP3 files
recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the
ISO 9660 level 1 format (128 kbps and faster
recommended). Windows Media Audio (WMA9) is
also supported using a compression rate from
64-160 kbps.
JPEG
Playback: JPEG files stored on CD-Rs and
CD-RWs can be played as a slide show and
enjoyed on your TV using the DVD-3930CI. Kodak
picture CDs and Fujicolor CDs are also
supported. During slide show playback, you can
rotate an image 90-degrees clockwise or
counterclockwise, flip an image vertically or
horizontally, or zoom in on an image. In
addition, you can play the pictures in random
order.
Note: JPEG files recorded on a
Macintosh computer cannot be played.
Dual
Discrete Video Circuit: The DVD-3930CI
uses dual 14-bit 216 MHz video D/A converters
to ensure highly accurate playback of
delicate, low-level video signals and give you
a vivid picture that is faithful in every
detail. One D/A converter is used to process
Progressive signals and one is used for
Interlaced signals to eliminate mutual
interference between the two types of signals.
I/P
Converter from Silicon Optix Inc: The
DVD-3930CI uses a 10-bit I/P converter called
REALTA. This 10-bit processing offers high
conversion performance and improves motion
detection capability. Regularity in
pixel-level patterns are rapidly and
accurately detected not only in the 3:2
patterns of film sources but in other patterns
as well during I/P (Interlaced/Progressive)
conversion.
1080p Video Scaler: The same 10-bit video
converter known as REALTA is also used as a
video scaler and is capable of 720p, 1080i or
1080p output for HDMI. This scaler can also
output PC resolution - VGA/XGA/WXGA/SXGA
signals.
HDMI:
The unit's HDMI jack passes both digital
video and audio using a single cable. HDMI
Version 1.1 is compatible with copy protected
DVDs with HDCP and CPPM (Content Protection
for Pre-recorded Media/used in DVD-Audio),
which was not the case with version 1.0. You
can select the type of video signal output by
the HDMI jack: 480i/576i, 480p/576p, 720p,
1080i, or 1080p.
Denon Pixel Image Correction (DPIC): Also
built on a 10-bit platform, DPIC's pixel by
pixel correction compares nine different
pixels of adjacent video data for each pixel
correction. Luminance and chroma signals are
also processed to suppress ringing noise and
other artifacts.
Noise Shaped Video (NSV): The NSV feature
works in the digital domain to reduce noise in
the video signal frequency band, improving
video signal to noise ratio and enhancing
video signal linearity.
Multi-Directional Diagonal Filter (MDDF):
MDDF detects and corrects at a pixel-level the
directionality of lines, avoiding the "jaggies"
often seen in supposedly straight diagonal
lines.
Audio Processing: This
unit uses 24-bit, 192 kHz audio D/A converters
that are well protected from noise caused by
fluctuations in current from the power supply.
It has built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders
along with a 5.1-channel analog output.
Advanced AL24 Processing for All Channels:
Denon has further developed its proprietary
AL24 Processing, an analog waveform
reproduction technology, to support the 192
kHz sampling frequency of DVD-Audio. This new
technology, AL24 Processing Plus, thoroughly
suppresses quantization noise associated with
D/A conversion of LPCM signals to reproduce
the low-level signals with optimum clarity
that will bring out all the delicate nuances
of the music.
Pure
Direct Mode: The DVD-3930CI includes two
Pure Direct modes that further improve sound
quality. For example, during analog audio
output, Pure Direct can turn off digital
signal outputs, video signal outputs, and the
front panel display, which can easily
influence the sound quality of the analog
audio signals. You can define which operations
are to be turned off and store those
preferences in memory.
HDCD
Decoder: HDCD is a digital recording
technology, compatible with the conventional
CD format, that significantly reduces
distortion during recording to expand the
dynamic range and realize high resolution. The
HDCD decoder allows the DVD-3930CI to play
discs that have been recorded in HDCD format
and to bring out the superior sonic
performance from these discs. Combined with
Denon's advanced audio technology, the
DVD-3930CI masterfully reproduces HDCD's rich
dynamic range and beautiful sound quality.
SACD:
Unlike PCM based technology (CD/MiniDisc/DVD/Audio
DVD, etc.), Super Audio CD is based on
Direct Stream
Digital (DSD) encoding, which does not
require decimation and interpolation filters.
DSD is much simpler and enables a 1-bit signal
to be recorded directly. DSD encodes music at
2,822,400 samples per second (64 times that of
standard CD) allowing you to hear sound with
incredible detail and clarity. DSD combines
the advantages of digital recording with the
best characteristics of analog sound. The
DVD-3930CI unit will play 2-channel and
multi-channel Super Audio CDs. During SACD
playback, the optical digital and coaxial
outputs do not operate. The Digital Link 3rd
output or analog outputs must be used to
listen to SACDs.
Multi-channel DVD-Audio Playback:
DVD-Audio is a multi-channel format used for
high resolution audio recording. This unit can
decode and play DVD-Audio discs with a
sampling rate up to 192 kHz with a 24-bit word
length.
Vibration-Resistant Design: Since the
high-density data recorded on DVD must be read
with absolute accuracy, vibrations from
outside or from internal sources, such as the
power supply, will adversely affect sound and
picture quality. A variety of designs has been
incorporated in the DVD-3930CI to suppress
these unwanted vibrations. The DVD mechanism
section in the main chassis has been divided
in a two-box construction to further protect
it from vibrations. Furthermore, the unit is
shielded from internal and external
interference via a 3-box chassis design.
CI
(Custom Integration): Custom Integration
is Denon's certification to custom installers
that models marked with the "CI" stamp have
advanced connectivity and control features
often required for custom home integration and
theater applications using premium control
systems. The following are examples of the
control features.
-
RS232C serial command control
-
Remote in/out IR command control
-
Discrete Power on/off command
-
480i
output capable for HDMI

5.1-channel jacks to the bass handling
capabilities and configuration of your speaker
system, left and right front, center, left
surround and right surround speakers can be
set to "Large", "Small" or "Off". The
subwoofer can be set to "On" or "Off". The
speaker distances can be set between 1 and 60
feet in 1-foot steps. The low-pass crossover
can be set at 40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz or 120Hz
with a high-pass slope of 12dB/octave and a
low-pass slope of 24dB/octave. You can also
adjust the output level for each speaker
between 0 and 10dB in 1dB steps. Note: The
Speaker Setting and Speaker Distance settings
are turned off when you select the "Source
Direct" option.

feature to achieve a powerful sound even when
the volume is low.
Audio Synchronization: You can adjust the
audio delay with respect to the picture. You
can set the delay from 0 to 200 milliseconds
in units of 10 milliseconds.
TV
Aspect Ratio: You set the TV Aspect Ratio
output according to the screen of your
connected TV. You can choose from 4:3 Pan and
Scan, 4:3 Letterbox or Wide 16:9.
NTSC/PAL Compatible: The TV Type can be
set to NTSC, PAL or Multi. The Multi setting
automatically switches the output to NTSC or
PAL depending upon the type of disc loaded.
Squeeze Mode: In this mode the picture is
displayed in the center of the 16:9 TV screen
with a 4:3 aspect ratio, regardless of the
original image size.
Keystone Correction: Keystone distortion
occurs when the connected projector or screen
is at an angle. The DVD player allows you to
correct the angle horizontally (-40 to +40)
and vertically (-30 to +30).
Picture Quality Adjustments: The
DVD-3930CI allows you to select a Standard
picture quality setting (default settings) or
customize the settings and save them in one of
five image quality memories (M1-M5). Custom
settings include adjustments for contrast,
brightness, sharpness (mid and high), hue,
CCS, white level, chroma level, DNR, MPEG NR,
gamma, setup level, horizontal position, and
vertical position.
8 MB
Buffer Memory:
This unit is equipped with an 8 MB buffer
memory to ensure that both picture and sound
are played without interruption when the DVD
disc shifts from layer 1 to layer 2, or in the
rare event of a pickup dropout.
Resume Function:
The Resume function allows the
player to remember the point where you stopped
play. Playback will resume from the point
stored in memory. The stopping point is
cleared if the tray is opened or the stop
button is pressed a second time.
Markers: Up to 8 points on a DVD-Video
disc can be stored in memory and easily
recalled. Markers are automatically cleared
when the power is turned off or when the tray
is opened.

a full-featured wireless IR remote control
(RC-1038) to operate DVD player only.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
5.1-Channel Audio Outputs: The DVD-3930CI
offers multi-channel analog output for
DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and SACD playback.
2-Channel Audio Outputs: In addition to
the 5.1-channel analog outputs, the unit
features a stereo audio output for connecting
to a stereo analog input on a TV or receiver.
Even when the source audio is multi-channel
(Dolby Digital, DTS, DVD-Audio, SACD), these
jacks will output a downmixed 2-channel
signal.
HDMI
(High Definition Multimedia Interface):
The unit's HDMI simplifies A/V connections by
carrying uncompressed SD or HD digital video
and up to 8 channels of digital audio all in
one cable. This unit features HDCP copyright
protection technology, and must be connected
to an HDCP-compliant device. The output
resolution can be set to match the capability
of the monitor or projector. The HDMI
connection is compatible with DVD-Video and
DVD-Audio, but not SACD. The video signal
format can be set to 480i/576i, 480p/576p,
720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
Denon Link: The DVD-3930CI has an RJ-45
Denon Link 3rd Edition output. Through the
Denon Link, the DVD player can transfer
6-channel 96kHz/24-bit or two channel stereo
192kHz/24-bit DVD-Audio signals, as well as
2-channel and multi-channel SACD signals,
digitally to a receiver. Because the signal
transfer is balanced and the voltage is lower
than coaxial or unbalanced cables, the Denon
Link is far less susceptible to radiated
noise, which helps to ensure the highest level
of signal transfer. Denon Link 3rd Edition
uses a different signal from Denon Link S.E.
(Second Edition). Because of this, the Denon
Link 3rd Edition signals are only compatible
with A/V receivers that are Denon Link 3rd
compatible. In the Digital Interface Setup,
you can select the type of signal output
through the Denon Link jack: 3rd, 2nd, or Off.
If the unit is set to 2nd Edition signals,
there will be no output from an SACD.
Digital Audio Outputs: This unit features
two digital audio outputs, one optical and one
coaxial connection. These can be connected to
an A/V receiver, amplifier, surround decoder
(Dolby Digital, DTS), or other component.
Component Video Output: The DVD-3930CI
features two component video outputs, capable
of passing a progressive scan signal or an
interlaced video signal. Note: One set
of component video outputs are BNC
connector-type.
Composite and S-Video Output: The DVD
player features one Composite video and one
S-vide output.
Room
To Room In/Out: Two 3.5mm mini-jacks are
provided for wired remote control, allowing
you to connect the DVD-3910 to compatible
Denon components.
