Panasonic Progressive Scan DVD Player, Model
DVDS29K
Features:
-
Advanced Disc Review
Now there’s a quick, easy way to search for
programs you recorded in DVD-RAM, DVD-RW or DVD-R
format with a DVD Recorder. You can choose to
review the first 7 seconds of each recorded
program or the first 7 seconds from each 10-minute
interval.
-
Advanced Progressive Scan
All Panasonic DVD Players are equipped with a
high-precision progressive video processor that
handles 30-frame progressive scan images* on NTSC
discs. DVD discs have video signal information up
to 13.5MHz bandwidth. Many conventional players,
however, are prone to degradation in the video
signal near 13.5MHz in progressive output mode.
Panasonic DVD players can fully transmit these
signals. The delivery of these signals gives
images profound depth and provides a level of
definition that brings out even the finest
details.
-
Advanced Surround (V.S.S.)
Even on systems with only two front speakers, the
Advanced Surround function lets you enjoy surround
sound from Dolby Digital software having two
channels or more. This effect can also be used for
a DVD-Video disc recorded with two channels or
more using DTS or Linear PCM.
* Works with DVD-Video software recorded with two
or more channels using Dolby Digital, DTS or
Linear PCM.
-
Audio/JPEG Navigation Menu
On-screen confirmation of MP3 and WMA folders
recorded on CD-Rs or CD-RWs lets you search tracks
quickly. Plus, JPEG* data stored by category in
separate folders is displayed in a menu that
maintains the same folder structure, making it
quick and easy to search for photos and music.
* DCF-based still photos shot with a digital
camera or SD A/V recorder and recorded as JPEG
files. Playability may vary depending on the
contents, discs
and quality of the recording.
-
Audio Only Circuit
Protection against noise is provided by the Audio
Only circuit that isolates the audio circuitry
from the video circuitry. The result is
exceptionally pure signal reproduction.
-
Built-in dts*2 Decoder
Offering incredible digital surround sound, dts®
is the sound system of choice for many theatres.
By connecting the DVD player directly to an AV
receiver with 5 or 6 discrete inputs, you can
enjoy the amazing 5.1-channel digital surround
sound offered by dts® encoded discs.
-
Chapter Preview
Once you have resumed playing the DVD movie disc,
the Chapter Preview feature automatically shows
you the first few seconds of each previously
viewed chapter, and then proceeds with normal play
once it reaches the position you left off.
-
Component Video Out
Component video output terminals allow for the
transmission of digital video to compatible video
equipment. By keeping the Y/R-Y/B-Y format of the
video image perfectly intact during the
transmission process, the highest possible picture
quality is maintained.
-
Dialogue Enhancer
When viewing a dts® or Dolby Digital® 5.1-channel
movie disc, sometimes the dialogue encoded on the
centre channel can be difficult to hear
particularly when loud sounds from the other
channels overwhelm the centre channel. The
Dialogue Enhancer is perfect for such instances as
it increases the centre channel volume relative to
the other channels, making the dialogue more
audible.
-
Digital Output for dts® & Dolby Digital®
Surround Sound
Many of today’s movies rely on a dts or Dolby
Digital 5.1 soundtrack to bring all of the action
to life. That’s why all Panasonic DVD players have
outputs for optional dts® and Dolby Digital®
surround sound receivers. They provide six
discrete channels of exhilarating digital audio
that deliver the ultimate sound experience.
-
MPEG Digital Noise Reduction
During Playback, advanced 3D-DNR circuitry
effectively and selectively removes only noise
components from the signal. In addition, to
suppress the compression noise characteristic of
the MPEG format, Block Noise Reduction reduces the
square-shaped "block distortion" that can easily
occur in scenes of rapid motion, while Mosquito
Noise Reduction reduces the noise around sharp
edges that can look something like small flying
insects. The result is stunningly clear image
reproduction.
-
Multi-Format Playback*
Select Panasonic DVD players can play DVD-Audio,
DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, +R, +RW, VCD,
SVCD, CD, CD-R/RW, HighMAT (Level 2), WMA, MP3,
JPEG and HDCD. A single unit lets you enjoy
everything from movies to audio.
-
HighMAT (High Performance Media Access
Technology) *
Developed jointly by Microsoft and Panasonic,
HighMAT technology lets your PC write digital data
onto a recording medium that your A/V equipment
can read. A HighMAT-compatible Panasonic DVD
player can read HighMAT data written to a
CD-R/CD-RW—including photos and music—and display
the contents in a menu. It can play music tracks
according to a playlist you make. And, if you
place the music, photos and other content onto
HighMAT disc, it will categorize the data by
file-type for easier selection.
-
* Windows Media, the Windows logo, HighMAT and the
HighMAT logo are trademarks, or registered
trademarks of Microsoft Corporation
in the United States and/or other countries.
-
JPEG/TIFF Playback
Display a list of JPEG/TIFF* digital still photos
recorded onto a CD-R or CD-RW, or do a slide show.
-
* DCF-based still photos shot with a digital
camera or SD A/V recorder and recorded as JPEG
files. Playability may vary depending on the
contents, discs and quality of the recording.

About WMA (WINDOWS MEDIA AUDIO)
This is a compression format developed by
Microsoft Corporation. It achieves the same sound
quality as MP3 with a file size that is smaller
than that of MP3.
-
Multi Re-Master Processing
This interpolation technology, a Panasonic
original, increases the data density in CD or DVD
signals to reproduce even high-frequency sounds
outside the audible range. It increases spatial
characteristics to create a level of sound quality
that approaches the DVD-Audio format. Multi
re-master processing can also be used with
compression formats such as MP3 and WMA to help
compensate for signal loss. You get a full, rich
sound that’s difficult to distinguish from the
uncompressed original, even when listening on a
high-end sound system.

On-Screen Menu Icons
Whenever you use one of the Panasonic DVD Player
models, you’ll appreciate the convenience of its
redesigned user interface. The setup screen is
easier to follow thanks to a new screen design and
remote control cursor display. The cursor alone
can be used to make all changes to the three menu
bars for disc, player, and scanning information.
Instead of having to use the setup screen to
change bar position, you can move it around so it
doesn’t get in the way while viewing a playback
picture.
-
Position Memory
By memorizing a desired location and enabling
playback from that location, Position Memory lets
you eject a disc part way through a movie and then
resume viewing from the same point later. This
handy function remembers the location where
viewing was interrupted for up to five discs,
which is a real convenience in a family with a
wide range of tastes in entertainment.
-
Quick On-screen Display
Display the title number, chapter number, playback
time, playback speed, file name and more, onto the
TV screen for easy checking. You can have the
information displayed in large text and numbers,
so checking is much easier on the eyes than with
the DVD player’s display.
-
Quick Replay
Simply press the Quick Replay button on the main
unit or remote control during playback, and
playback starts from a point 7 to 10 seconds
before. This is convenient if you miss a scene,
don’t catch the dialogue, or want to watch a scene
again.
-
Sleep Function
Don’t worry if you fall asleep while watching a
movie; this function automatically switches off
power to save energy.
-
Slim, Elegant Design Complements Other
Panasonic A/V Components
Inside and out and from every angle, Panasonic
super-slim DVD players reflect the craftsmanship
and advanced digital technology for which
Panasonic is known. The black stripe running along
the silver-toned body accentuates the unit’s slim
profile. It also matches the designs of other
Panasonic DVD systems, DVD video recorders and
VCRs, which is helpful when you’re trying to
achieve a harmonious look among the different
components in your A/V system.
-
Twin Laser Pickup for DVD/CD Playback
All Panasonic DVD player models feature a newly
developed Twin Laser Pickup. Using one objective
lens with two laser units having different
wavelengths optimized for DVD and CD reproduction,
this advanced pickup can also play CD-R/RW discs.
The integrated design of the Twin Laser Pickup DVD
unit reduces noise pickup by using an OSIC
(optical electric IC) with built-in I/V amp. This
highly sensitive state-of-the-art optical pickup
is made possible by Panasonic’s advanced optical
device technology.
-
x200 High Speed Scan with Progress Indicator
x200 High-Speed Scan enables fast-forward/reverse
at up to 200 times normal speed. This lets you
scan a two-hour movie in about 40 seconds,
offering a quick way to access desired scenes.
There’s also the Progress Indicator Function,
which displays a scale at the top of the screen
for at-a-glance confirmation of your current
playback location and remaining play time.
-
54MHz 10-bit D/A Converter
A D/A converter using 54MHz over sampling helps
bring out the stunning, beautiful picture quality
in the DVD player models equipped with progressive
scanning capability. By processing the DVD video
signal at 4 times the original 13.5MHz rate, this
technology provides vivid and finely textured
image reproduction. To provide a magnificent
picture, the DVD image data receives 10-bit
processing for faithful reproduction that extends
to delicate signal details.
