portable DVD player with an adjustable built-in 8.5''
diagonal widescreen LCD and is capable of multi-format
playback.
Free-Style

widescreen display on this portable DVD player pivots
to different viewing angles so you can adjust its
position for optimum comfort and image quality.
Slim-Line

light weight design makes this portable DVD player
easy to carry around and store. It can fit easily into
your purse or backpack.
Playback
Capability: The DVD-LS80 can
playback the following discs.
- DVD, DVD-RAM, DVD-R/RW,
DVD+R/RW
- CD, CD-R/RW
- MP3, WMA, and JPEG
formats recorded onto CD-R/RW
MP3 and
WMA Playback: This unit can play MP3 files
recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. Discs must conform
to ISO9660 Level 1 and 2 (except for extended
formats). The unit is not compatible with ID3 tag
information.
JPEG Disc
Playback: This unit can play JPEG files recorded
on CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-RAM discs. Discs must conform
to ISO9660 Level 1 and 2 (except for extended
formats). All JPEG files on a disc can be played back
in a slide show. The slide show has an adjustable
interval from 0-30 seconds. During slide show
playback, you can rotate an image 90-degrees clockwise
or counterclockwise. In addition, you have access to
random, repeat, and program playback.
HighMAT
Discs: HighMAT stands for High Performance Media
Access Technology. Co-developed by Panasonic and
Microsoft, HighMAT was designed to significantly
improve interoperability for digital media content
between PCs and popular electronics devices such as CD
players, car stereos and DVD players. HighMAT is a
digital-media standard that provides a dramatically
improved method of storing, arranging and playing back
personal digital photo, music and video collections on
recordable discs such as CD-RW media. This unit is
compatible with HighMAT discs containing MP3, WMA or
JPEG data.
PCM Down
Conversion: You can choose one of the following
PCM digital output settings: Up to 48 kHz, Up to 96
kHz, or Up to 192 kHz. Each selection allows the unit
to output audio up to the chosen frequency. If the
frequency being played back is higher than the
setting, the audio is downconverted to 48 kHz or 44.1
kHz. Signals are automatically downconverted despite
the settings if the disc has copy protection.
Monitor
Modes: You
can choose one of three monitor settings to show a 4:3
aspect picture on the 16:9 LCD screen.
-
Normal: This mode will give you bars on the left
and right side of the 4:3 picture.
- Full:
The 4:3 picture will be stretched horizontally
to fill the screen when in this mode.
- Off:
The LCD screen is turned off when in this
setting. Use this mode when you are listening to
music to conserve battery life.
LCD
Picture Adjustment: You can adjust the brightness
and color of the LCD. You can adjust both settings
from -5 to + 5.
Movie
Modes: You can select the suitable picture quality
for viewing your movies.
- Cinema
1: This mode mellows images and enhances detail
in dark scenes.
- Cinema
2: This mode sharpens images and enhances detail
in dark scenes.
-
Normal: This mode is the standard default
setting.
Depth
Enhancer: This feature reduces the rough noise in
the background to give you a greater feeling of depth
when watching a movie.
MPEG DNR
(Digital Noise Reduction): This feature smoothes
block noise and reduces the smudging that appears
around contrasting sections of the picture.
A/V Output:
You can hook up the DVD-LS80 to your home television
and home receiver as well, due to its a/v and optical
digital audio outputs.
TV
Aspect: You can set the aspect ratio for the video
output to match your television. You can select
between 4:3 Pan&Scan, 4:3 Letter box, or 16:9.
CM (Commercial
Skip): The disc will skip
ahead exactly one minute when this feature is used.
This function is useful when you want to skip
commercials or previews when watching a movie.
Advanced
Surround or EQ Mode: When
playing a Dolby Digital disc, this feature allows you
to obtain a surround sound effect from only two
speakers or headphones. If you are playing a
disc with surround effects recorded on it, the effects
are broadened and the sound seems to come from virtual
speakers on either side. You can indicate whether you
are listening to speakers or headphones, and with each
mode you can choose "Natural effect", "Enhanced
effect", or Off.
Dialogue
Enhancer: The Dialogue Enhancer makes dialogue easier
to hear by automatically raising the volume of the
center speaker. This functions only with Dolby
Digital or DTS DVDs that use 3 or more channels.
Multi
Re-master: This feature gives you a more natural
sound by adding higher frequency signals not recorded
on the disc.
H. Bass:
Use this feature to enjoy extra heavy bass while
watching a movie or listening to music.
Dynamic
Range Compression: DRC reduces the variations
between loud and soft sounds in audio output so you
can still hear the softer sounds and dialogue even at
very low volume.
Dual Headphone
Jacks: You and a friend can
watch the same movie with privacy using the dual
headphone jacks. Hook up two pairs of headphones and
watch together on a plane or in the back of the car.
Parental
Lock Function: You can select a parental control
rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit
password.
Cigarette
Lighter Adaptor: You can use the cigarette lighter
adaptor to charge the portable DVD player while you
are in your vehicle.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Optical
Digital Output: The mini-jack output on the side
of the player (labeled "Audio/Opt Out") doubles as a
mini-optical digital output and an analog line output.
As a digital output, it can output Linear PCM, as well
as Dolby Digital and DTS bitstreams.
Video
Output: The mini-jack output can be used as a
composite video connection. Using the supplied
audio/video cable, you can connect the player to the
RCA composite video input on a TV or monitor.
Headphone
Outputs: For private listening, the unit has two
standard 3.5mm stereo headphone jacks. When headphones
are connected, the unit's built-in and external
speakers are muted.
DC IN
12V: The DC 12 Volt input allows you to attach the
AC adapter to the portable DVD player to use as a
power supply and charger.
