HDMI Video Upconversion - 720p/1080i:
HDMI can support uncompressed digital video up to HDTV resolution. Thus the player makes use of this conduit by up-converting the standard DVD picture resolution of 720p or 1080i. This makes a DVD player with an HDMI connection the perfect match for today's digital televisions. And because this conversion is performed in the player, the signal remains free frome excessive digital to analog artifacts.

DivX Home Theater Certified:
DivX Home Theater Certification allows playback of DivX (.div/.dvix) AVI and MPEG4 (.ASF) compressed files downloaded from the internet from a personal computer and stored on a CD-R/-RW/Recordable DVD's. The support extends to the full version of DivX 3.11, 4.12 and 5x as well as DivX PRO, with video resolutions of 720 x 480 at 30 fps and 720 x 576 at 25 fps. You also get audio support for a multitude of formats including: MP3, AC-3 (2 channel and 5.1 channel), WMA, LCPM, ADPCM, and Ogg Vorbis.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver) with an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports SD, ED, or high-definition (HD) video, plus multichannel digital audio--all using a single cable. Video Upconversion: The DV-400V-K has the ability to upconvert a standard DVD signal to HD-compatible 720p or 1080i and pass it through the HDMI output; upconverted signals are not passed by the component video output.

Audio D/A Converter: The Pioneer DV-400-VK has a 96kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converter for superb audio reproduction.

Progressive Scan Output: Progressive-scan video has less flicker and fewer motion artifacts than the traditional interlaced-scanning method, resulting in a superior picture. To take advantage of this feature, you must have a television with component video inputs that supports the progressive scanning mode. The  Pro component outputs on this unit can be set to pass either progressive or interlaced video.

MP3/WMA Playback: This unit will play MP3/WMA audio files recorded onto CD-ROM and CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1, Level 2 or Joliet formats. Compatible bit rates include 32-320 kbps for MP3 and 48-192 kbps for WMA. Each disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000 files.

JPEG Disc Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto CD-ROM and CD-R discs using the ISO 9660 Level 1, Level 2, or Joliet formats. You can select a single image or a page of 9 thumbnails. Each disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000 files. Maximum file size is 3072 x 2048.

DivX Playback: This unit will play DivX and MPEG-4 files recorded onto CD-ROM and CD-R discs. DivX is a compression technology. Optional DivX software allows you to create and play your own DivX videos. Video-on-demand movies are also commercially available to buy or rent. Each disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000 files.

Zoom: The Zoom feature allows you to get an increasingly close-up view of the image. Each press of the Zoom button increases the magnification to 1.3x (Zoom 1), 1.5x (Zoom 2), or 2.0x (Zoom 3). You can also move the zoomed image around the screen.

Resume Play: Resume play allows you to resume playback of a disc from the point where you last stopped. The stopping point is cleared when the Stop button is pressed more than once, the disc tray is opened, or the unit is turned off.

Bookmark: This function allows you to store bookmarks on a disc that can be easily recalled. You can bookmark up to 3 scenes at a time.

Parental Lock Function: You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface): The unit's HDMI simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio all in one cable. This unit features HDCP copyright protection technology, and must be connected to an HDCP-compliant device. If your TV has a DVI input instead of an HDMI input, you can connect this unit to your TV using an HDMI-to-DVI adapter. You will also need to connect audio cables to the player because DVI is a video only cable.

Blu ray, HD DVD and Region free!

I originally bought this player to play HD dvd movies. I was wondering why this player was so cheap compare to the other HD DVD players. I soon found out that this was a HD upconverting player and it did not play HD dvd movies. I also wanted a blu ray player so I can play any disc. I ended up buying a LG blu ray/ hd dvd player from you as well. I was recommended to go with that one in addition to this by a sales rep at your company. I am very satisfied with this player. It play movies from all around the world with very good picture. Sometimes it is tough to even tell the difference between the blu ray discs and standard discs playing on this player because of the high resolution hdmi output. Now I can play every disc known to man!!!

This player is fabulous. I ordered the Pioneer DV-490V from you a couple months ago and called in to order another one because I liked it so much. The customer service rep said he didn't have the 490v in stock but had the 400 instead; it was black and it did 1080p. I thought what the heck I'll go for it. Then he told me it was more money. I says, there we go again... the old bait and switch. I ended up buying it anyway, and just received it. It is a really nice player. Can't give it 5 stars, because I've only had it for a day now. But so far so good. Plays all my Chinese bootlegs.. also gives a really really good crisp picture and good sound. I was impressed. So far it's the best player I've ever owned. Compare to those crazy $1000 blu ray things, I much rather get this. I tried one of those and returned it. The picture was just like this and the discs were so much more expensive. Also the blu ray thing didn't play my cheap Chinese bootlegs which I love to play.

This player is really awesome, it plays anything you give it with superb picture quality... Player is very nice, everything you guys described. I wanted a Silver one as well, so I got the LG1080i player and the PIoneer DV-400V-K. Picture quality is pretty similar. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because my delivery the first time which was 2 days after I ordered was not left at my door. They waited and came back the next day until I signed for it. I wich you guys would just have them leave it at the door so I don't have to sign. Anyway both players did the trick. I can play all my cd, dvd's, divx movies, and region 2 dvd movies from Europe.

Excellent player for a inexpensive one to play foreign movies. I also have a Blu Ray player, but it is not region free. I decided to buy this one with it so I can play my movies from Europe on it. To be real honest, there is not really a big picture difference between this and my blu ray player. For the price, I think this player is the best bang for your buck.

This machine solved all my problems. I moved to the USA from Germany, and have 100+ dvd's that I brought from Germany. I tried playing them on my dvd player purchased at Best but and found out they didn't work. "Not only were they the wrong region, but also they were pal and the USA uses NTSC" Is what the sales person at Best Buy told me. I then found this player on your site, and it solved all my problems. Thank you very much. I conected it to my LCD TV with the HDMI cable you provided in your value package. It works flawlessly and the picture is super. Thanks for offering this service, I am going to recommend you to all my German friends.

Play movies from UK no problem

I just got this player. It plays my movies from the UK. I was a bit struck to see such a low price when I ordered it. I almost thought there was something wrong with it. I saw players from $50 all the way up to $1500. I wasn't sure what to get. This player looked good, and the reviews were pretty helpfull. I thought I would give back a little by writing a review as well. I ended up going with this one as it looked like a good mid priced player with great features. Ineed it was.

Plays my chinese bootlegs

I have a lot of dvd movies that were purchased from different parts of the world. Primarily I had problems playing my wife's discs from China. It think they are bootleg, but most dvd players that I treid including a Philips region free player, did not play them. This player played every one of them. I had some VCDs and others were DVDs. All played with no issues.
