Audio
D/A Converter: The
Toshiba SD-3960 has a 192kHz/24-bit audio
digital-to-analog converter for superb audio
reproduction.
Video D/A Converter:
This unit uses a
54MHz/10-bit video
digital-to-analog converter, which reduces digital
artifacts for a better picture and provide
unsurpassed color purity, color detail and
resolution.
MP3/WMA
Playback: In addition to DVDs (including DVD-R),
Video CDs and Audio CDs, this unit will play MP3/WMA
audio files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using
the ISO 9660 Level 1, 2 or Joliet formats.
Compatible bit rates include 32-320 kbps for MP3 and
48-192 kbps for WMA. During MP3/WMA playback, you
can use repeat, program, and random functions, but
you cannot use search or A-B repeat functions. Each
disc can have no more than 256 folders and 1000
files.
JPEG Disc
Playback: This unit will play JPEG files
recorded onto CD-ROM and CD-R discs using the ISO
9660 Level 1, 2, or Joliet formats (CD-RW not
recommended). You can select a single image, a page
of 6 thumbnails, or a slideshow of a selected
folder. Each disc can have no more than 256 folders
and 1000 files. Maximum file size is 3072 x 2048.
Hardware Progressive Scan:
This unit may be
set to output a progressive scan video signal from
the Color Stream Pro component video output.
Progressive-scan picture quality is more film-like,
with more fine detail and less flicker. You can
select Automatic progressive conversion, Video (for
video based content shot at 30 frames per second),
or Film (for film-based material shot at 24 frames
per second). Progressive-scan viewing requires a TV
with a progressive scan compatible component video
input.
Digital
Cinema Progressive: Toshiba's Digital Cinema
Progressive 3/2 Pulldown process delivers the
smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive
scan television, such as a
high-definition-compatible one, and ensures maximum
resolution.
Enhanced
Sound Enhancement: You

Slow
Motion: The SD-3960 will play in slow motion in
3 forward speeds: 1/2x, 1/4x, 1/8x. It cannot play
in reverse slow motion.
Fast
Reverse/Forward: This unit will play in fast
forward or fast reverse in 4 speeds each. No
indication of the speed is given as a multiple of
normal speed (ex. 2x, 3x, etc.). With each press of
the fast forward or fast reverse button, the
playback speed indicator changes to ">>", ">>>",
">>>>", or ">>>>>". During fast scanning, the audio
and subtitles are muted.
Zoom:
The Zoom feature allows you to get an increasingly
close-up view of the image. Each press of the Zoom
button increases the magnification to Zoom 1, Zoom 2
,or Zoom 3, and Shrink (a "framed" smaller image).
You can also move the zoomed image around the
screen.
Auto Resume:
The Auto Resume feature allows you to resume
playback of a disc from the point where you last
stopped. The stopping point is cleared when the Stop
button is pressed more than once or the disc tray is
opened.
Karaoke: When playing a Dolby Digital
Karaoke DVD disc, you can turn on/off the vocals
from the menu. Note: This unit does not have
a microphone jack.
Dynamic Range Control (DRC):
You can turn the DRC on or off in the menu. When
turned on, loud sounds, such as explosions, are
toned down slightly when played back. When off, the
audio plays back at the recording level on the disc.
This function only works with Dolby Digital-encoded
discs.
Parental Lock Function:
You can select a parental control rating
from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

ColorStream Pro: The SD-3960 features
ColorStream Pro component video outputs which allow
the video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a
component video-equipped interlaced or progressive
scan TV. Typical artifacts, such as video noise, dot
crawl, and flicker, are virtually eliminated,
resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture
with unequaled color purity. In addition to the
component video outputs, the unit also has one
composite and one S-Video output.
Coaxial
Digital Output: This unit features a coaxial
digital output to allow you to connect the player to
a receiver with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder.
There is no optical digital output on this unit.
